February 2015, for MODERN LUXURY HAWAI'I
Leave it to Waikīkī’s Luxury Row to throw one of the most art-rageous events in the islands, Hawaii’s Modern Masters, which pairs leading labels with artists from Cedar Street Galleries. As with years past, the heart of the action was at Chanel’s top-floor gallery, where tunes from the DJ wafted through the lānai overlooking Kalākaua Avenue. Amid the sea of well-heeled culturati was the always-affable painter Kelly Sueda, whose signature smile lit up the room. Meanwhile, at Gucci, all eyes were on Mark Chai’s geometrically intricate woven vessels. Joining the party this year was new boutique Moncler, where ridiculously plush fur throws and sleek skiwear definitely rivaled Rod Kent’s sculptures for attention. (Not to mention that insanely delicious room fragrance!)
